I'm rather looking forward to getting mine back from the garage tomorrow! (The incredibly ordinary - and yet still massive fun - silver one, rather than the black GTi, I'm afraid.)

Awww hell yes :) if you want a GTi at some point, my sister's boyfriend has one that's sitting at the back of our car park waiting on new shocks and a rebuilt ECU. High miler, but worked very nicely when he was driving it :)

If I could afford the insurance, I'd be all over it, but as is I'd be paying only slightly less than the total value of the car for a year's coverage. How much do you reckon the ECU rebuild is likely to cost?

He's looking to get that done before selling it I think. There's a chap on his forum who does them on exchange for a hundred quid or so.
Ouch, I forgot how bad the first few years insurance is :S on the positive side it decreases rapidly in the next year or two :)
Food for thought :)
